What is Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)?

ACT was developed as a third wave of behavioural therapy by Steven Hayes. ACT is a humanistic and mindfulness-based behavioural therapy which promotes one’s psychological flexibility. ACT interventions help individuals become more aware of the present moment, open to internal experiences, and engaged in value-based actions.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence based modality that supports healing trauma from past and present. This memory-based therapy targets maladaptively stored memories through bilateral stimulation (BLS) to the point of adaptive resolution. EMDR is effectively delivered through an online platform.

Who can benefit from EMDR?

EMDR is applied to individuals with PTSD and attachment/developmental trauma history. EMDR is also utilized to treat depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobia, substance use disorders and more.

How many EMDR sessions will I need?

It all depends on the extent of trauma history and selected targets. 6-12 EMDR sessions are usually recommended, though some may need less or more.

Can I combine counselling and EMDR sessions?

Of course! In fact, the talk therapy and EMDR often complement each other, known as the ‘top down’ and ‘bottom up’ approach. 80-minutes sessions are recommended for those who would like to focus on EMDR-based therapy sessions.
